After visiting Beijing and the grandeur of the Forbidden City, fly to Lhasa, home to such architectural and cultural treasures as Potala Palace and the 17th-century Jokhang Monastery. Tour Tibet to the city’s famed temples, experience the daily life of its people. The centerpiece of this expedition is five days of trekking to scenic, seldom visited areas of Tibet including the Tsapuk and Drikung Valleys, Terdrom, and the Pha Bong Kha pilgrim hike. Our trek follows in the footsteps of Dalai Lamas who have journeyed here seeking visions regarding their future and the circumstances of their death.
Day 1 Lhasa
Start your Tibet trek by arriving in Lhasa. Transfer to your hotel and enjoy a free afternoon.
Day 2-3 Potala Palace, Jokhang Monastery & Barkhor Market | Drepung & Sera Monastery
Begin today drive to Potala Palace, the Dalai Lama’s winter residence before visiting the Jokhang temple that focuses on Tibetan spiritual and national aspirations. Next off to the Drepung Monastery one of the world’s largest monasteries built in 1416 and Sera Monastery, noted for its theological debates.
Day 4 Lhasa | Ganden Monastery & Drubshi Valley
Drive to approximately 30 kilometers northeast of Lhasa to Ganden Monastery before beginning your trek in Drubs Valley.
Day 5 – 7 Ye Drokpa – Balang Tsoto | Sumdho | Samye via Yerma Lung
This morning, begin your trek at the snowcapped Shukar La pass before continuing to your camp at Balang Tsoto. Continue trekking for the following two days, admiring the scenery and the local nomadic culture.
Day 8 Samye Monastery
Today, visit the Samye Monastery, the first Buddhist monastery in Tibet. In the afternoon visit the village of Tsedang and the palace at Yambulagang.
Day 9 Lhasa | Departure
Spend the morning sightseeing and shopping, transferring to the Gonggar Airport in the afternoon for the return flight to Beijing.
