Cleveland Museum of Natural History, for the
trip of a lifetime to the remote fossil beds
of the legendary “Flaming Cliffs” and Nemegt
Basin, two of the world’s premier fossil
sites. Working under the auspices of the
Mongolian Academy of Sciences and the
Mongolian University of Science and
Technology, and with the guidance of Dr.
Michael Ryan, expedition members will have
the opportunity to prospect for and excavate
fossils from the legendary Gobi Desert which
is home to some of the most exciting finds
of the century.
Itinerary:
Days 1 - 2 Arrival / Ulaanbaatar
On arrival in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolias capital city, enjoy a private behind-the-scenes look at the paleontological laboratory of the Academy of Sciences.
Days 3 - 11 Gobi / Nemegt Basin / Ukhaa Tolgod
Fly to the Gobi and continue overland to some of the worlds premier fossil sites. In this rich desert setting, travelers will feel like explorers from a bygone age as they excavate fossils under the supervision of Dr. Currie and Dr. Badamgarav, one of Mongolias leading paleontologists.
Days 12 - 14 Hongoryn Els / Tugrigiin Shiree / Flaming Cliffs
Continue working at Tugrigiin Shiree site, famous for the Fighting Dinosaurs, a fossil of a Protoceratops and a Velociraptor locked in combat. Also, visit the legendary Flaming Cliffs, where, in 1922, the first nest of dinosaur eggs the world had ever seen was discovered. Return to Ulaanbaatar on Day 14.
Days 15 - 16 Ulaanbaatar / Departure
Explore Ulaanbaatars excellent museums and magnificent cultural sites. Depart on Day 16.
