This 21-day Exploring the North and South India tour takes you on an exhilarating escape to an amazingly vibrant and vivacious land, where ancient mixes with modern and the senses are constantly tempted with sights and sounds of the most exotic kind.

The journey begins as you explore both New and Old Delhi with an exciting rickshaw ride to Chandi Chowke. Stand in awe in the majestic sunrise and sunset views of the Taj Mahal, invigorating safari as you look for the elusive Royal Bengal Tigers at Ranthambore Tiger Preserve. Visit the “Pink City” of Jaipur, Udaipur also known as the “City of Sunrise”, where you will cruise on Lake Pichola. Discover the slums of Dharavi in Mumbai and the Elephanta Caves, one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites. Explore the temples of Madurai, savor the flavors and aromas of famous Indian spices and houseboating along the backwaters of the Arabian Sea.

Outline Itinerary

Day 1 | Arrival in Delhi.

Welcome to India. Met on arrival and transferred to your hotel. Balance of the day is at your leisure to recover from jetlag. .

Day 2 | Exploring ‘Old’ and ‘New’ Delhi

Explore Old and New Delhi and visit sites such as Lakshmi Narayan Temple, Bangla Sahib Gurudwara, India Gate, Humayun’s Tomb, Red Fort, Jama Masjid and an exciting rickshaw ride to Chandi Chowke.

Days 3 – 4 |  Agra

Explore the town of Agra the next two days, home to the famous Taj Mahal.   You will visit Itmad ud Daula, the mausoleum built in the memory of Queen Nur Jahan’s father and Agra Fort.  You will also enjoy the magnificent sunrise and sunset over the Taj Mahal.

Day 5 | Fatepur Sikri / Train to Ranthambore

Explore Fatepur Sikri, Akbar’s eerily abandoned city, full of elegant small palace structures carved from red sandstone.  Then take the train to Ranthambore.

Day 6 | Ranthambore Tiger Preserve

Embark on a sunrise and sunset safari at the Ranthambore Tiger Preserve in search of the Royal Bengal Tiger and other wildlife.

Day 7 | Ranthambore Tiger Preserve to Jaipur

After the morning park excursion, depart for Jaipur also known as the “Pink City.”

Day 8 | Jaipur

Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan and popularly known as the “Pink City.”  Explore the colorful bazaars of the old city, Hawa Mahal (Palace of the Winds), Mughal Art Museum, Amber Fort and Palace, Temple of Kali, the Hall of Victory, Jai Mahal and Jagmandir.

Days 9 – 10 | Udaipur

Visit the Jagdish Temple, the Garden of Maidens, Maharaja’s City Palace and the Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandal.  You will also enjoy a scenic cruise across Lake Pichola.

Days 11 – 12 | Mumbai

After arrival in Mumbai explore the slums of Dharavi before reaching your hotel. Also visit the UNESCO’s World Heritage Site – the Elephanta Caves and the Gateway of India. Some free time to explore on your own or shop in the bazaars of Mumbai.

Day 13 | Fly to Madurai

Fly to Madurai in the morning. In the evening, visit the Meenakshi Temple to witness the evening “Aarthi” (prayer) ceremony.

Day 14 | Madurai

Explore the Meenakshi Temple and visit the “Hall of a Thousand Pillars,” “musical pillars” and Kambatti Mundapum. Later, visit the Thirumalai Nayaka Palace.

Days 15 – 16 | Thekkady & Periyar National Park

Drive to Thekkady and explore a nearby private spice plantation. Half-day hike at the Periyar National Park and an opportunity for an adventure bamboo raft ride in the river.

Days 17 – 18 | Cruising the Backwater

Descending from the Nilgiri Hills to the plains in Kerala, you board your deluxe houseboat and enjoy the next couple of days cruising the backwaters of the Arabian Sea.

Day 19 | To Cochin

Disembark your houseboat this morning and drive to Cochin.  In the evening, enjoy a classical Kathakali dance performance.

Day 20 | Cochin

Visit Fort Kochi, Church of St. Francis and basilica of Santa Cruz.  Enjoy a traditional dance performance and a chance to meet the performers.

Day 21 | Depart India

You are transferred to the airport in time for your departure flight.
