Your Quick Escape to the Tibetan plateau starts with a day in Delhi to recover from jetlag while leisurely exploring a few of its ancient sites. A two-hour flight brings you to the Ladakhi capital of Leh, ideally located for exploring the variety of monasteries in the Indus Valley. Leh is an ancient and mesmerizing city, with its winding streets and countless little shops of the Main Bazaar and Chang Gali. You also explore the historic sites at Hemis, Thikse and Lamayuru. Of course, no trip to Ladakh is complete without visiting the mural wonderland at Alchi.

Outline Itinerary

Day 1 | Arrival in Delhi

Met on arrival and transferred to your hotel.

Day 2 | Exploring Old Delhi

Explore “Old Delhi,” take a rickshaw ride to the heart of Chandi Chowke and to Jama Masjid. Enjoy a traditional Indian welcome dinner.

 Day 3 | Fly to Leh

The flight to Ladakh offers spectacular views of the Himalaya.  Acclimatization day as we allow our bodies to adapt to the high elevation.

Days 4 – 5 | Exploring Indus Valley

In-depth explorations of sites and monasteries along the Indus River Valley, including Hemis, Matho, Stok and Thikse.

Day 6 | To Alchi

Today you delve deeper into the Ladakhi way of life.  Drive along the Indus River to Basgo, site of another ancient monastery. Continue by road to the 10/11 Century “mural wonderland” of Alchi.

Day 7 | Lamayuru & Rizong

Cross back over the Indus River and stop at Rizong. In the afternoon, visit the Lamayuru Monastery.

Day 8 | Return drive to Leh

Drive back to Leh via Likir monastery. Afternoon/evening to explore Leh.

 Day 9 | To Delhi & Outbound

Transfer to airport for flight back to Delhi. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon exploring Delhi. Late evening you are transferred to the airport for your return flight back home.

This trip requires participants to be in good physical condition and participate in regular cardiovascular exercise.
