The Kazakh people of western Mongolia have been hunting with golden eagles for centuries. But by the late 1990s, fewer than 40 families upheld the tradition. Now that number is around 400, thanks to the Golden Eagle Festival, an annual showcase established by three Kazakh men and Jalsa Urubshurow, the Mongolian American founder of Nomadic Expeditions.
